HOW OFTEN DO GAS BOTTLES NEED TESTING?
Gas cylinders have to be re-certified every 10 years. To find our how old your gas bottle is, the date (month & year) is stamped on the collar of the gas bottle. In Australia, it is illegal to use a gas bottle that has expired.
WHAT TO DO WITH AN EXPIRED GAS BOTTLE
If you gas bottle is expired-
You need to stop using it
Take it to a gas testing station near you to have it tested and re stamped.
Responsibly dispose of it by taking it to a recycle station near you.
Do not dump a gas bottle or put it in the rubbish or recycle bin. It must be disposed of correctly. Careless disposal of your gas bottle is a safety hazard in land fill & for re-cycle workers.
A gas leak on a BBQ gas bottle can cause an incredible amount of property damage & personal injury. It is very important to know how to test your BBQ gas bottle yourself regularly.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHECK MY BBQ GAS BOTTLE
You should test your gas bottle every time you change it or when you think you can smell gas.

HOW TO TEST YOUR GAS BBQ BOTTLE FOR A GAS LEAK.
Put a small amount (good squeeze) of liquid dishwashing detergent in a clean spray bottle with water.
Spray the fittings, valve, regulator & hose.
If any bubbles appear on any of the above, you have a gas leak.
Call your Gas Fitter if you need help to test or repair.
HOW TO TEST HOW MUCH GAS IS LEFT IN YOUR BBQ LPG GAS BOTTLE.
A 9 kg BBQ gas bottle weighs approx. 18 kg when full.
It is easy to test to see how much gas is left in your bottle.
Using warm tap water,
Pour it down the side of the gas bottle.
With your hands, feel for a temperature change on the gas bottle.
LPG gas is cold to touch, so when you feel the bottle cold, this is how much gas you have left.
HOW LONG DOES A BBQ GAS BOTTLE LAST?
A 9kg BBQ Gas bottle has approx. 30 hours of gas. Depending on the amount & type of use, your BBQ gas bottle may last 3-6 months or 12 months if not used regularly.
