Hot water heating costs or the running costs of hot water, is to some people more important than the initial outlay or maintenance on the hot water heater.
So which is the best hot water system?
With so many hot water brands & types on the market, which is the most efficient hot water heater?
This is not a straight forward answer, even between the brands of hot water heaters, fuel supply, size of the tank & amount of people using the hot water will alter the running costs.
The running cost below is a comparison of the hot water heaters using 200L of hot water a day at a temperature of 65 degrees for 12 months. It will not be an accurate assessment of your hot water energy bill.

So what is the best hot water system?

The running cost of these hot water systems does not take into consideration the initial outlay, installation or ongoing maintenance costs.
There is a large price difference between the initial outlay of some of these hot water systems. It is also our experience, that some types of hot water heaters mentioned, require more ongoing maintenance than others.
If the over all cost is important to you & not just the running costs, then we recommend weighing up the overall expense of a hot water heater from the original purchase, installation, running costs & maintenance over the life of the hot water tank.
The running costs of Natural gas compared to LPG will also differ. Natural Gas is considered to more energy & cost efficient of the gas hot water heaters.
With this comparison to find the best hot water system & most energy effective hot water heater, we have only compared the Rheem brand in each type of hot water heater, installed in Queensland Australia with the electrical tariff rates in 2017.
Even with price increases of electrical tariffs, the running cost comparison between these hot water heaters should remain the similar.
