Insinkerator or garbage disposals were common in the 80βs & 90βs.
They are a kitchen appliance usually installed under the kitchen cupboard & require power to operate.
Other wise known as a garbage disposal they chomp up all the kitchen food scraps & mixed with water, they dispose of them down the sewer main.
After a couple of decades of use, we are seeing a decline in their use, as being an electrical appliance, they have a small motor which can fail, which leads to a blocked or smelly kitchen sink.
Today we tend to recycle, feed the chickens or compost food scraps.
If you have one of these & it has failed, you have 2 options-
π Replace with a new one
π Remove & re plumb the sink back to a standard plug & waste.
The later is cheaper & more popular.
If you leave the failed one in place, it will collect food scraps & smell. π²
